Industrial Visit To Infosys, Hyderabad

Computational intelligence society (CIS), Student Chapter organised an Industrial Visit to Infosys, Gachibowli, Hyderabad on 29 April 2022. A total of 110 ardent participants started off on an event that aimed to impart – an experience of the professional environment of the software industry, enlightenment about the work culture of the IT industry, infrastructure and campus facilities provided by the company.

The visit consisted of a session on Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) Process, conducted by the HR team. The introduction was given by Mr Surendra, he shared information regarding Infosys Ltd. and its recruitment process. He also shed light on current IT trends and skills required to get hired by companies.

Further Mr. Ravi Sharma, Project Manager, gave insightful details on Software Development Life Cycle concepts including Waterfall, Agile Methods, Product Delivery Scheduling, Cloud and Microsoft Applications. How any problem can be solved using Hybrid Agile Implementation containing several steps such as Sprint, Waterfall, Discovery Workshop and so much more were discussed. Later one of our students went on to describe his project and its execution in detail in terms of Hybrid Agile Implementation.

The students were also guided about the copious career opportunities in the IT industry and numerous IT-related roles they can explore. Success stories were shared to inspire the students. After the posed queries were answered, a tour around the Infosys campus was given to acquaint the students with the workstations and facilities.

Triathlon

Computer Society of India conducted Triathlon on the 12th  of February 2022. Triathlon is a 3 round competition that allows participants to engage in fun-filled activities that nurture team spirit and communication skills. The competition was held online using Google Meet with about 70 participating for the event.

The competition kick started with the rules being laid out which included that the best candidates from each round would progress to the next round. Round 1 ,titled “Start/Stop, comprised of a Kahoot quiz. Contestants were asked to select from a choice of answers with questions ranging from various topics. After a series of questions, the best performing contestants graduated to round 2.

 Round 2 or Treasure Hunt required the contestants to form groups. Each group was given a set of fun riddles that needed to be solved. Once solved, the team members would have to show the “treasure” by fetching it from their house within a stipulated time limit. The winning team qualified for Round 3.

Round 3 was titled ”Throw your Shot”. Round 3 involved every contestant getting a list of companies, for which the contestant would have to voice their opinion on the company’s ideas. The contestants brought out a lot of interesting ideas that could be implemented from a specific company’s point of view. The top 5 contestants were awarded with merit certificates.

Overall, Triathlon was a brainstorming, innovative, fun and interactive event that allowed contestants to share their point of view, get in touch with the latest technological news and many more.

International Women’s Day Celebration

In the spirit of womanhood and hoping to create a world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination, IEEE GRIET SB WIE AG in collaboration with the Women Development Cell (WDC) of GRIET organized an event to celebrate International Women’s Day with the theme: “BREAK THE BIAS”.

The event commenced with a prayer song following which, Dr. G Mamatha, Coordinator of WDC and Chairperson of Anti Sexual Harassment Cell GRIET, welcomed everyone and spoke about the immense strength that women hold and their influence in driving the world towards progress.

The principal of GRCP Dr. Giriraj Kulkarni discussed the power of a women’s voice in society. Sharing his views on how women can make thoughtful choices to bring potential changes in society, he suggested all women move ahead in life by maintaining a positive spirit.   
The principal of GRIET Dr. J Praveen addressed the subject of gender parity in various organizations and proudly stated that GRIET is an institute with an equal number of male and female staff.  Referring to various Hindu Mythological characters, he explained the various qualities possessed by women and expressed his gratitude towards them.
Mr. MG Sekharam, the CEO OF GRES gave a brief overview of the challenging situations a woman faces in today’s society. He expressed his concern for the need for women empowerment and gender equality and emphasized the importance of educating a girl child.
Dr. Jandhyala Narayana Murthy, the director of GRIET showered his respect for women. He described the diverse roles women play and their importance in shaping a better world detailing their strong influence and ultimately saying that women are the essence of the world.

The guest of honour Dr. G. Jalaja Veronica, the Addl.Medical Superintendent & HOD, OBG Dept. District Hospital, Kingkoti was then invited on stage to speak a few words.  She expressed the need for smart, knowledgeable, and skilful individuals in society, sharing her views on how an educated woman can influence society. She explained how education, knowledge, wisdom, and awareness shape and change a person’s life. She further explained how a woman can overcome difficulties and hardships with a positive attitude and good deeds. She concluded her speech by sharing her experiences as a frontline worker in a COVID ward stating how her service was beyond the gender norms and any other biases present in the society.

The event advanced with the presentation of AICTE awards to all the winners and concluded with a vote of thanks by the NBA coordinator GRIET, Dean Internships, and IEEE WIE chapter branch counsellor Dr. J Sridevi.
